Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp white sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter
1/2 cup milk
In a medium mixing bowl add the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt and stir to combine.
Add the butter.
Cut the butter in with a pastry blender or using two knifes.
Add the milk.
Stir to combine, scrapping the sides as needed.
Dough will be really sticky and soft.
Drop by tablespoon-fulls into boiling soup or stew.
Cover with lid and cook 7 minutes. (Stir the soup as needed to prevent the bottom scorching, then return the lid to the pot)
I've got to try this out! I've never made western style dumplings before. Actually I've never even tried them, although I have heard "chicken and dumplings" a lot.
ReplyDeleteI live in Shanghai and cook often. It keeps me sane in this crazy city! I'd love to share some recipes sometime. Based on your "Ground Rules" it seems you allow others to post on here, I'm just not sure how to do so. I'm practically computer illiterate; please detail how to post.
Thanks!
Courtney,
ReplyDeleteYou are more than welcome to become a contributor on the blog! With my busy schedule I can only post a recipe about once a week and I really want to get more contributors so there are more frequent posts. Just send me an email at gourmetdiyshanghai@gmail.com and I will send you an invite.
